Suzie Leahy - Slowdown Studio Art Comp Winner 2019!

Updated: Aug 6, 2019

Recently you may have noticed that I have posted a few pieces of art for the Slowdown art competition on Instagram. This annual competition is run by Slowdown Studio – founded by Australian-born, Los Angeles-based designer Marc Hendrick. You can read a little more about it here as if you don’t know their gorgeous textiles – you definitely should! Discovering and collaborating with emerging artists is at the heart of this business and each year in July, they invite artists from anywhere in the world to enter for the chance to have their design featured in the following year’s blanket collection. There are 12 winners selected and a different blanket is released each month. Here are a few of the blankets from last years comp – see, I told you, amazing! I highly recommend you check out the work of their featured artists.

I had so much fun working on my designs. You can enter 5 pieces, I ended up creating about 12! I just couldn’t decide- had way too many things I’d love to see on a blanket. No doubt some of them will appear in my shop as art prints soon.

Anyway, I am so excited to share that I was selected as one of the winners this year! Amongst the most incredible company. There were literally thousands of entries and following the #slowdownartcomp2019 on Instagram was an incredible feast for the eyes. I discovered and connected with so many ridiculously talented creatives around the world– I honestly fell in love with so many designs. I do not know how they narrow it down and it makes me feel so honoured to have had a design picked. Here are the 5 designs I submitted, followed by the 12 winning designs. I can’t wait to see it all woven up into a blanket and share some photos with you.
